What is Patriotism?
Patriotism is between the ears – the thoughts and actions of people who care for and about others.
“Out, damned Koplik spot, out, I say!”
Measles is the spot that is annoying and a downright nuisance with potentially serious consequences.
“When did Decency Become a Luxury?”
Decency is a necessity, a basic tool/skill, in a civil society that hopes to advance democratic ideals. Polite, moral, and honest behavior is predicated on treating others with respect, empathy, and kindness.
Patriotism is between the ears, not on your head
Displays of patriotism without the requisite actions are incomplete in my estimation.
Perspectives
Perspectives can unite us or bitterly separate us. We can choose to see the other side and acknowledge basic truths, or we fiercely argue only what we “see” and refuse to accept alternate ways to move forward constructively.
